Sheikh Hamdan Senior Secondary School, in The Gambia, was founded in 1999 by His Royal Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al-Maktoum. The school’s mission is to provide an education that nurtures curious learners for life, fosters spiritual, personal, and physical growth, and promotes inclusion of all community members. The school is committed to its Islamic heritage while welcoming families of all faiths and backgrounds. The school offers an innovative approach to the curriculum that integrates technology, promotes creativity, encourages artistic expression, and actively engages students in exploration and inquiry

When it comes to school athletics in The Gambia, we are one of the best. We have solid athletic teams that have won numerous awards and gold medals in inter-school athletic championships across the country.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum was a visionary leader and a generous philanthropist who dedicated his life to the service of humanity. He was the founder and patron of the Al Maktoum Foundation, which supports various charitable and humanitarian causes around the world, especially in Africa.
One of his remarkable achievements was the establishment of the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Schools in several African countries, including The Gambia. These schools provide quality education to thousands of students from underprivileged backgrounds, empowering them with knowledge and skills to pursue their dreams and aspirations.
His school in The Gambia was established in 1999. The school has a library, a computer lab, a science lab, a playground, and a mosque. The school is well-equipped and well-staffed to provide a conducive learning environment for the students.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al-Maktoum passed away on 24 March 2021, leaving behind a legacy of service and generosity. We pray to Allah to have mercy on his soul and grant him the highest rank in Paradise. May Allah also bless his family and his nation with peace and prosperity. Ameen.
